Wilderness Society Presentation showing important areas of Australia.
In 1976, in Bob Brown’s tiny cottage at Liffey – south west of Launceston – a small group came together to ensure the wild and mighty Franklin River in South West Tasmania would run free to the sea. This small group grew into a large, and powerful movement of many thousands of people who acted within the values of The Wilderness Society, which are:
– Passion for our purpose
– The power of people to create change
– Integrity and independence
– Compassion
– Commitment to success in protecting nature
The Wilderness Society celebrate our 40th anniversary as one of Australia’s most influential and successful environment groups – with 33,000 members and hundreds of thousands of supporters. Our strength—and our ability to make change and progress—comes from working and acting together with the vision of transforming Australia into a society that protects, respects, and connects with the natural world that sustains us.
