Fungi – The Superheroes of Our Future – Sandra Tuszynska

Sandra Tuszynska (PhD) is a passionate biologist who specialises in mycology (fungal biology). Her goal is to preserve and encourage biodiversity from the ground up – starting with soil remediation by fungi. She inspires others into action through evocative science communication, presenting fascinating facts about various creatures which are vital to our survival.

Discover the wonder of the Wood Wide Web, the sophisticated ways in which the humble fungi rule the world. They serve as the communication network across entire forests and provide immunity to their plant hosts through intimate relationships. While some fungi munch on rocks and wood, creating soils and nourishing all life forms, others feast on pollutants such as pesticides and petrochemicals. Fungi provide renewable resources from agricultural wastes –  to grow plastic, furniture and buildings – there are no limits to what these superheroes can do.
