WaCC Walks

Notes of past WaCC Walks

Sat, 2nd Oct 2010: 'Coucal Trail' at Pullen Reach, Brisbane River, Westlake

Undaunted by the threat of wet weather, a dozen people turned out for a leisurely stroll along Westlake's Coucal Trail along the Pullen Reach of the Brisbane River.  Setting the pace in the photo at right is WaCC's new Creek Ranger, Nick Abroms!

One of the highlights was having local fungus expert, Megan, in attendance as pictured below, giving details of fungi sighted during the walk. Megan's listing of local fungi will posted on this website shortly.

Some of the birds observed during the walk included Pheasant Coucal, Scaly-breasted Lorikeet, Little Lorikeet, Red-backed Fairy Wren and of course the ubiquitous Noisy Miner.

The location of the Coucal Trail walk is shown on this map.

Historical note:
The Coucal Trail was so named by a dedicated group of young adults who worked on a Green Corps Project for several months in 1998-99 (see SORB newsletters Dec 1998 and Mar 1999). The name refers to the Pheasant Coucal bird, whose mournful hoot-hooting is still known to echo the length of this reach of the river, as we found on this recent walk.

Sat, 8th May 2010: Upper reaches of Jindalee Creek, downstream from Ashridge Rd, Darra

Some twenty people attended the WaCC Walk on Saturday afternoon, 8th May 2010 led by Henrik Maier.

The purpose of the walk was to enjoy the beautiful park and bushland along the upper reaches of Jindalee Creek between Ashridge Rd, Darra, and the Edenbrooke lake.

The group also inspected the areas which suffered sediment damage to bushland adjacent to CSR site during construction of the adjacent industrial subdivision.

We ran out of time to complete the walk to the Edenbrooke lake. It was resolved to defer that to a future visit to check the status of the creek and algae issues there.
